In 1843 a group of Christian men and women established the first Methodist Church in Girard, Ohio. They met first in a small log school house erected in 1800.In a few years they moved to a storefront on the  west side of State Street. The first church building was built in October  of 1852 at a cost of $680.00. In 1880, the second church was built on  the present location and used for the next forty-seven years.
The second church was torn down and work was begun on the present church building. It was dedicated on October 21, 1928. An addition named Wesley Hall was added in 1958.This provided needed educational space. Many improvements have been added during the years. Several projects to maintain the building have been carried out.
The church began a Youth Club in 1983.This hosts up to 80 children each Wednesday evening. The Great Beginnings Pre-School was also begun in 1983.The church has continued to respond to the needs of the community over the years. The church remains strong with many persons involved in many activities.
