And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.. ~ Romans 8:10-11
I heard a great saying this week by Dallas Willard: “Discipleship is the process of becoming who Jesus would be if he were you.” I love that. Paul explains in this scripture that Christ lives in us, and his Spirit will give us life, now and after we die. The reason he lives within us is not simply so we look like him, but that we look like what he would look like if he were us. We won’t all have the same kind of humor, tastes in music, outlook on life when we’re in Christ. But we will be fully and authentically ourselves – who God created us to be – when we let the Spirit of Christ live in us. He only removes/heals the parts that are NOT authentically us – the masks we wear, the wounds in need of healing. So when we surrender our lives to Christ, we are surrendering to becoming who we were destined to be from the beginning.
Prayer: God, I place myself in your hands. Form me into the likeness of Christ-in-me and may I find myself at home and fully alive. Amen.
