“Who you are matters. Your soul is cause for great delight. There is freedom in this discovery and absolute liberation in its ownership. When who you are on the inside matches the outside, you are ready for everything else.”― Jen Hatmaker, Fierce, Free, and Full of Fire: The Guide to Being Glorious You
Woah! Does that hit you too? I have had a year of becoming more comfortable with displaying who I am on the inside on my outsides and it’s been stretching and a bit uncomfortable. I have shared some things in these devotionals that are personal and some are things I normally would hide in my secret heart. I am a very private person, but have learned through my experience as a mental health provider that secrets die in the light. There’s a saying in the recovery community- “you’re as sick as your secrets”. There’s a lot of truth in that to unpack. I think God wants us to share what He has done in our lives and sometimes it includes us revealing a bit of ourselves in the process. When Jesus healed people or sent His disciples out, He’d say something like “Go…tell”. So, I am going to encourage you to do the same. You do not have to share some deep dark secret or some elaborate story, but if God gave you a glimpse of a beautiful sunrise and a moment of clarity, share it with someone. It may just be the thing they needed to hear. Meghan DeGregory
