If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about—but not before God. 3 What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”        ~Romans 4:2-3

What does it mean to be justified? As a kid I learned that justified means “just-as-if-I’d never sinned”. Even though we don’t live up to our own standards – let alone God’s – we can be in right standing with God. What determines how God treats us is NOT how well we keep his standards. It has to be something else.  How is it between you and God? Do you see yourself sitting at the dining room table eating dinner as a close family? Being in the same house but not really talking? Sleeping in the garage, but still on the same property? Or across the street? In a different state? In a different country?

Your perception is just that – perception. Because of Christ, God does not treat us according to our perfection of behavior (or lack thereof). Our righteousness is credited to us.

Prayer: God, help me remember that my standing with you isn’t determined by how well I performed today. Thank you for giving me something I don’t deserve. Amen.
